How old does my child have to be to start martial arts?

The great thing about our program is, the earlier you get started, the better your long term results!

We have children in our programs that started as early as 3 or 4 years old, but since children develop at different rates the best (and really ONLY) way to see if your child is ready for our program is to take advantage of one of our WEB SPECIALS and try it for yourself!

Will Martial arts make my child overly aggressive?

No. In fact, quite the opposite!

Children are exposed to HUGE amounts of simulated (and real) violence on video games, television, movies, the internet and other media outlets.

But in our (unique) program, we teach students real, practical, effective non-violent conflict resolution techniques and tactics that can defuse the situation before it escalates to violence. AND ALSO escape techniques and tactics that event ‘smaller’ people can use to move to safety if approached by a potentially dangerous situation.

Should your child be confronted with an aggressive situation that can’t be resolved peacefully, or escaped from, he or she will also then have the basic martial arts skills to defend themselves.

What are the benefits of martial arts?

There are so many!

Martial arts students benefit from increased physical fitness and mental focus.

The focus on self-discipline, respect, self-confidence, and perseverance in the face of setbacks builds character in students young and old. Our students also join a community of people who share an interest in martial arts, improving their own way of life, and making a positive contribution in the community.

How Many Classes Do I Need to Attend?

We know how busy your life is as a parent, so our program is designed so that students can make exciting progress by attending classes an average of twice a week.

Some students will want to attend more classes, and that’s great, we have options for that!

Does My Child Need to Be in Good Shape to Start Lessons?

One of the best parts of our program is that every student is treated as an individual, and will progress at their ow rate.

Each student’s progress isn’t measured against other students, but rather against their own previous performance!

So even students that aren’t as physically fit as the star quaterback on the football team, can have a wonderful experience in our program, and become stronger, fitter and more flexible.

  We enrolled our 3 boys at Master Irvin’s House of Discipline almost 1 year ago. Our boys have become respectful to all others they meet daily since taking Taekwondo classes at the House from Master Irvin! We receive compliments from others in the community all the time about how kind and respectful our sons have become. Thank you to Master Irvin their confidence has increased dramatically!! They have learned life lessons that they will carry with them. Our sons have grown physically and mentally since beginning Taekwondo. They enjoy testing for new belt colors.   As a Mother, first of all, I want to note how Master Irvin knows the way to work with children, how he, Mrs. Ivory, and his assistant instructors create an environment where students want to practice, be disciplined, enjoy their success. The most valuable thing in these classes is that it all happens together with the Master! As the result - happy parents, happy children, friendly atmosphere, everyone becomes a part of one such interesting process!

As a student, I find Master Irvin to be attentive, detail-oriented, sociable, and at the same time demanding. I am grateful for the opportunity to train. Master Irvin works for the result.

  Master Irvin's is by far the BEST martial arts school my son has attended. Master Irvin himself is awesome with the kids and gives the kid the love and leadership they need while giving them a great foundation about the principles of martial arts. My son loves this school and I wouldn't trade this school for another one. I still believe it takes a village and boys need need strong male figures and Master Irvin is fulfilling that to the to the fullest.   Practiced here for Senior project for several months! This is an Excellent school! I was able to participate in a tournament and receive my yellow belt during testing! Master Irvin is a great man and instilled a lot of confidence and discipline in me and made sure i was legitimately proficient in what I was learning!   My son has only been with Master Irvin for a few months and I am so glad we found this school! Master Irvin is a strong, passionate and knowledgeable teacher. My son has learned so much since he’s started. I have also took a self defense class and loved it! I gained so much knowledge, obtained lots of techniques and a mindset that’s ready at all times!   Master Irvin does a fantastic job of creating a disciplined learning environment for all ages. He teaches the kids about respect, leadership and discipline. Tae Kwon Do is a great format for kids to build self esteem and learn some defensive skills.
We’ve had our 9 year old in classes for almost a year and have seen improvements at home and school. I would highly recommend this place. He truly cares about teaching the kids and enjoys seeing them progress and develop.
