Where do I begin? I cannot say enough good things about Master Irvin and his martial arts school. Over the past few years, I have watched my sons go from timid little white belts to red belts with confidence in themselves and their skills. I owe so much to Master Irvin, least of all this review. Let me start by talking about his instructional style. The powerful volume of his voice may be intimidating at first, but his energy keeps the kids engaged and attentive. He is firm but fair and patient. His manner commands the respect of his students, and they (as well as the parents) love him for it! He gives the kids 110% every hour and a half class and he doesn't stop class just because the clock says it's time. It is very apparent that he loves teaching these kids and seeing them succeed. He holds the kids accountable for any misbehavior but also recognizes and rewards hard work and good behavior. He is not in the business of giving a child a medal just for participating. These kids earn each belt level. I think what I like most about Master Irvin is that he is a wonderful role model to boys and girls alike. He not only helps them sharpen their kicks, he teaches them to stand up for and defend themselves and others. He teaches them when it's appropriate to use their skill, and when it's not. He teaches them to be gracious and respectful. He teaches them to be kind.... until it's time to not be kind! Master Irvin has proven to be an integral part of my "village" in raising my two boys. He has taken his own time after class to talk with the boys when they have needed extra guidance. He truly cares about his students and goes above and beyond to make them feel special, encouraged, and important. Thank you so much, Master Irvin and Mrs. Irvin, for all you do for these kids! We appreciate you both so much!!
